The Partnership

What we aim to do:

Ensure effective representation of the voluntary and community sector at sub-regional level

Facilitate excellent communication channels to enable sharing of best practice, skills and expertise

Establish and develop relationships with regional bodies to promote corporate CVS interests

The South London CVS Partnership encompasses the boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Kingston-upon-Thames, Merton, Richmond-upon Thames and Sutton. The Directors of the six Councils for Voluntary Service from these boroughs are responsible for its governance.

Formed in 2001 the Partnership works to support the voluntary and community sector (VCS) develop and improve its contribution to the lives of citizens in the sub-region. The Partnership adopts the working principle of 'strategic but local'. This recognises the value and benefits of developing common policy positions at a strategic level while retaining local identity and meeting the diverse needs of the sub-region through local delivery. This commitment underpins the strategic objectives of the Partnership.

Since 2002, the Partnership has achieved considerable growth in its income. This has enabled it to meet the challenges of its strategic priorities and will sustain its continued efforts in these 5 key areas:

Developing a CVS model of excellence - responding to the changing environment in which CVS are operating and working towards the provision of better services.

Widening participation in lifelong learning - fostering the engagement of under represented groups into a range of lifelong learning opportunities.

Improving communication through ICT - empowering the VCS by building its capacity to use its ICT resources effectively with a skilled and knowledgeable workforce.

Training the workforce - recognising that people, highly qualified and motivated, are the essential component of an effective and thriving sector.

Promoting social enterprise as an alternative opportunity - providing advice and guidance to help groups be aware of new and different opportunities.
