Big Society

Looking for information about the Big Society?

As we have our own Big Society pilot in South London, a good starting point might be the London Borough of Sutton's website. Otherwise, most of the national infrastructure organisations have developed their own responses and briefings. A few of the most interesting are featured below. If you know of any useful resources, please let us know.

NAVCA

  • NAVCA have a Big Society page http://www.navca.org.uk/stratwork/bigsociety/Home.htm

  • NAVCA members were surveyed about their thoughts on the proposals, the effects they will have and the challenges that may be faced in its implementation. Some interesting headlines:

    - 78% said yes to the question "Do you think the Big Society represents opportunities to promote and support voluntary and community action that will help communities through hard times?
    - 68% said yes to the question "Is there a role for NAVCA members in the reform of the planning system to give neighbourhoods more say?"
    - 70% said yes to "Would you like to be directly involved in supporting local charities and community groups to help communities bid to take over local state-run services?"
