Merton Voluntary Service Council (MVSC) may be one of the smaller Councils for Voluntary Service (CVSs) within South London but it provides some of the best practice in the country, particularly when it comes to negotiating the local COMPACT. This is an agreement between the voluntary, community and faith sectors and the Local Authority and/or other statutory agencies. All too often the COMPACT gets a reputation for being a document with little teeth or value, but MVSC has really made it work, winning awards year on year and showing others how the sector and Local Authority can work together to achieve the best for local citizens and deal equitably and constructively even at a time when they're addressing the hugely challenging issue of severe budget cuts.
MVSC runs a particularly successful Community Accountancy Project and is noted for its ability to manage a comprehensive local directory of all their voluntary and community organisations including the extremely diverse faith sector.
