Sutton Centre for the Voluntary Sector (SCVS) has leapt into national prominence as a result of the London Borough of Sutton being declared as one of the national pilots for the much talked about Big Society. As SCVS seeks to help its local authority grapple with the day to day reality of this emerging concept, its main focus has been on trying to ensure changes do not further increase the inequalities gap.
SCVS provides a highly valued payroll scheme for voluntary and community organisations across South London as well as its own training programmes and projects supporting Sutton's sector to take full advantage of their Local Authority's progressive attitudes towards the sector.

Sutton Centre for the Voluntary Sector Chief Executive - Susanna Bennett
Susanna has recently been appointed as Chief Executive of Sutton CVS (May 2011), although she had worked as Deputy Director for 8 years and so knows both the sector and the borough well. Having worked in the NHS for 18 years in a range of community development and public health roles she has led the work around health and social care and will retain a strong interest in this area. Her main priorities are to maintain and develop support for the local sector and increase levels of income generation.
