Working Together

The "Working Together," workshop held on 16th March 2004 at the Croydon Park Hotel was well attended by the Voluntary and Community sector who were invited to debate a Learning & Skills Council (LSC) strategy on how the LSC will work with the Voluntary and Community sector.

Highlights of the workshop included: a presentation from Mary Francis (Director of Operations, London South LSC), setting the context and aims of the national strategy for the VCS and the LSC; and a voluntary sector perspective provided by Jacqui Finn, (Regional Co-ordinator, SLCVS Partnership).

Following a dynamic question and answer exchange, delegates were invited to participate in a choice of discussion groups examining the role of the VCS as a provider of learning opportunities; as an employer; a source of expertise and intelligence and as a channel of networking and communication.

The Working Together Strategy was published in July 2004 and in the foreword Mark Haysom, Chief Executive of the National LSC says, ".We need the sector's expertise and flair in working with marginalized people and communities." The document details 'ways of working' together to achieve shared aims.

It looks at the VCS as a provider, employer and source of expertise. It sets out recommended practices for the LSC National Office and local LSCs for working with members of the VCS. It concludes with an implementation schedule and a list of references and sources.
